About MadDog

This site is an information resource for day traders (and investors) to use for PC hardware and software issues, as well as offering opinions on trading and investing books. Although information regarding multidisplay and other hardware issues will need to be updated on an ongoing basis anyway, the whole site will be somewhat under construction for a while, due to my work and trading schedule.

Who am I? Well, rather than being a canine with rabies, my name is Mark Johnson, and I am a high-tech marketing executive and also have a multimedia production company (Lone Star Productions) in my normal working life. Like many people, I was a traditional investor until mid-1997, when I became concerned that the long bull market might be nearing its top. I wanted to begin trading the market and learning a shorter-term trading discipline that would enable me to profit from times when the market wouldn't be so bullish. (It's not that I don't have a better picture; my wife just thinks I'm a big baby.)

I made the rounds of day trading chat rooms and training sites during 1997 and 1998, and in the process, had some early success based more on luck than anything else. After the luck wore off, and in an attempt to prevent bleeding away all that early success, I began a process of learning trading disciplines based on technical analysis - namely, scalp and swing trading based on short-term and longer-term stochastics and moving average trends. During this process, I met a marvelous teacher named Jay Yu, a successful trader and author who runs the UndergroundTrader.com web site. Jay is a terrific teacher, my trading mentor, and one of the few people I've had a paying relationship with in the trading business who genuinely cares about the traders he works with.

About the name: For all the people who thought you knew what the Beatles lyrics really meant, no, I am not an angry person, nor do I raise pit bulls. And no, I don't like to drink cheap wine. Oh believe me, I like wine, just the better stuff. The name MadDog comes from my days in the mid-80's as a computer game producer, and was my "call sign" during the development of the F-16 flight simulation game "Falcon".
