CyberTrader: My Cyber Layout

I have different CyberTrader Pro layouts set up, depending on whether or not I have access to multiple displays or not. Also, I tend to gravitate toward particular software functions in my normal trading activity, and the layouts reflect that.

Note: All these layouts have general CyberTrader Pro layout information. Detailed information on Chart Studies components and how to use them together in trading are taught in The Underground Trader's premium real-time stock trading chartroom and are available to full-time members. Please visit The Underground Trader site for more information and to experience a free two-week trial.

I run a relatively uncomplex (in my opinion) two-screen layout under CyberTrader Pro. In the past, I have experimented with running multiple Level II windows, along with endless charts and other Cyber software features. However, I found that this only served to keep me from focusing on one stock at a time. And I am the type of trader who would rather focus on one stock at a time in order to effectively monitor its movements. It doesn't mean that I don't follow other stocks and sometimes switch to following them throughout the day. Rather, I keep an eye on the 20 or so stocks I regularly watch in my Market View window, and also monitor the Nasdaq Top Ten window to track the top movers. If I want to switch to following one of these stocks, or am alerted to breaking news regarding a particular stock, I simply load that respective symbol into my solitary Level II window. This works for me. If you have several monitors and/or would rather watch more stocks simultaneously, more power to you. I'm just not very effective with that approach.

Main Screen

The main screen has one Level II window centrally located in the bottom half of the display, with the main visual points I need surrounding it. Immediately right of the Level II window is Chart #2, a 1-minute intraday stock linked to whatever stock is currently loaded in the Level II window. Immediately above Chart #2 is Chart #3, another 1-minute intraday chart always tied to the Nasdaq e-mini futures, which are the leading indicator for Nasdaq stocks. I want these like-minded indicators visually close to each other, so my eye can register their movements quickly.

Immediately above Chart #3 is Chart #4, which is a 3-minute intraday chart for tracking the e-mini futures. This pulls the e-mini trend back to a longer-term perspective, but still needs to viewed quickly in tandem with the previous charts' movements.

Directly above the Level II window is the "old-style" Execution Control Panel. Recent versions of CyberTrader Pro introduced the abillity to design a Level II window specifically for ECN display and one-click execution. However, I prefer the "old-style" method using the Execution Control Panel, where a decision to Sell, Short or Buy brings up an interim dialog box, where you can toggle price levels up and down before making a "final" execution decision. Since I usually route my buy and sell decision via Island for liquidity reasons, I am used to toggling up and down until I reach my desired point of entry. This is how I learned to execute on Island, and is still my most comfortable method for doing so. I have it placed directly between the ECN Book (Island) window and the Level II window, so I can scan quickly while preparing for an execution decision.

Immediately above the Execution Control Panel is the internal ECN Book, which I leave set to Island. Once again, my eye is more comfortable following the depth of Island book prices using the ECN Books window rather than a "customized" Level II window, and it is placed in close proximity to the Execution Control Panel for quick visuals before making a decision.

The Market View and Nasdaq Top Ten windows are placed directly to the left of the Level II window to enable quick glances at other stocks of interest. Account Manager and Posiution Ticker windows are placed on the main screen, but up and out of the way in the top left corner, since they don't need to be monitored until I'm in a trade.

Screen 2

Supporting charts are relegated to the second display in my system. These include 3-minute, 13-minute and 60-minute charts linked to whatever stock is currently loaded in the Level II window, as well as a 60-minute intraday chart for the e-mini futures. All of these charts give a longer trend perspective and are well suited to being displayed on a secondary screen.
